GPS Total station exploitation

Global Positioning System (GPS) can give position of a point anywhere on the globe with high accuracy. GPS can measure base lines for high accuracy, it controls points without any line of sight requirement. Since Total Stations works on the principle of signal reflection line of sight must be there between Total Station and Prism reflector. This makes GPS more effective tool for control points establishment. However GPS can not be used in a area with lot of trees, High rise buildings because of satellite signal interference. The BEST way is to mix Total Stations and GPS together for effective survey of Land. 

While GPS, in particular real-time kinematic (RTK) GPS, is widely used and provides surveyors with an efficient tool to conduct survey activities, there are historically many surveyors who did not benefit from GPS technology because of a perception of complexity and expense.

With GPS Total station we don’t need to worry about control points, traverses and resections. We can just set up it wherever it’s convenient, touch the GPS key and let the antenna do the rest. RTK determines the position to centimeter accuracy within a few seconds at ranges up to 100 km from a reference station.

With the entire software in the total station, all GPS operations are controlled via the keyboard. All data are stored in the same database on the same card. Everything is integrated into one compact unit. We do no need for cables, external battery, data logger etc.
With Total Station’s modular design, you can use the equipment in any way you like. We use such station when there are no control points available. Once total station is accurately positioned, take off the antenna, put it on a pole, and use it with the controller and sensor as a fully-fledged RTK rover. You’re totally flexible with GPS Total Station.

You never know what kind of job tomorrow will be. For example plant and non-plant objects.
So once the accession number has been entered on the total station, the measurement is intitiated on the Total Station. The received data is stored. After the data has been downloaded, computer re-confirms the accession numbers and automatically inserts the plants into the map at their measured locations.
On the other hands Total Station Interface can also be used to map non-plant objects such as paths, irrigation devices and electrical boxes. This can be done by entering special codes in place of plant accession numbers.
